Luke ignored Vader for the rest of the trip.
For a moment, he had almost forgotten who and what he was dealing with. A totally self centred, self absorbed creature of darkness, boiled in rage and suffering who wanted him to convert to his way of thinking and start up a second reign of terror and horror after killing Palpatine.
And in aid of doing that, they were going... to Naboo?
He wasn't really sure why they were on their way there. It was his mother's home world. It was Palpatine's home world. It was a paradise of water and greenery that had produced something so rotten and evil that the galaxy heaved to try and dislodge it from itself.
He stands in the cockpit's doorway, nursing his stump in his left hand and watching hyperspace, preparing for the shock of dropping back out again.

The fact is, Luke has barely an understanding of how deeply evil Palpatine is.

There's a thousand ways to undermine, to resist, to spread dissent. The fact that Vader jumps straight to 'I didn't manage to kill him so I must accept whatever he says' sounds to Luke a lot like some of the slaves from home.

Still, he has his own small rebellions, ones he doesn't even consider explaining to Luke. Of all the Masters he's had over his life only one had gotten him this close to being completely subservient.

That should have been obvious.
"I mean... keeping me is fighting back, isn't it?"
no subject
And ignoring all other contact as well.
"There are calculations to make. What is worth the price you will pay. What is not." He is quiet a moment, but there is clearly something he's wanting to say, the Force expectant around him.

He understood. He had done the same.

"We didn't think he would start with something so. Important."
Although Jedha and Scarif had come before.
Three uses in a week. It disgusted him. Angered him.

It's an odd thought, if they were close. That he might've grown up with Leia. Their mothers pregnant together, giving birth within a week of each other.

He might have opinions.
They might be "we should have taken everyone not a Hutt or a Tusken Raider off that cursed place and used that as Death Star practice".

"I saved another kid from the Pit of Carkoon."

"And how old were you?"

The man reeked of caution, which he probably learned shortly before they had met.

"Aunt Beru was always more lenient about me driving and piloting."

All true.
Especially including the one where his legs ended up on backwards at the thighs.
Karking dug. Scare his mother like that.
"She was the better shot as I recall as well. She grew up there. Owen was raised off planet at least for a while." It doesn't occur to him be may know things about Owen and Beru that Luke doesn't. He'd only met them once, for a few days. Only spoke to them a handful of times after.

He certainly didn't mean to.
no subject
He wouldn't have put it that way, but he can feel the truth of it. The Death Star was an open wound in the Force.
"The Emperor can be stopped."
no subject
Together they can stop him, Vader feels he's been fairly upfront about that. Still, he can't quite help the snarky comment.
